Meeting tonight to discuss mailbox break-ins in Pocket-Greenhaven area

A community meeting will be held this evening to discuss mailbox break-ins in Sacramento's Pocket- Greenhaven area.

The meeting with representatives of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Robbie Waters Pocket-Greenhaven Library, 7335 Gloria Drive.

Troy Dickinson, a spokesman for the Postal Inspection Service in Sacramento, said the meeting is intended to gather information from residents and to provide information on how to report mailbox break-ins and mail theft.

Thieves and vandals have targeted cluster mailboxes in the area. Dickinson said he didn't have any figures on how many mailboxes or customers have been affected.

A similar rash of mailbox break-ins occurred in the Natomas area during October, November and December, and Dickinson said at least one person has been arrested in connection with those crimes.

To report damage to mailboxes or mail theft, call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at (877) 876-2455, or file a report online via the website at postalinspectors.uspis.gov.
