After several days of digging, the FBI and drilling experts have not found any human remains at a well in Linden where a search is being conducted for victims of two San Joaquin County killers.
Federal Bureau of Investigation personnel began working at the well on Jan. 7 in a search for the victims of serial killers Wesley Shermantine and Loren Herzog. Last week, digging began after the initial site preparations.
The experts don't exactly know the depth of the well, despite using a bore and camera. The excavating of the well is done by hand.
The FBI reports that digging progress has been slow but the team has reached a depth of about 40 feet within the well. Excavation has been challenging in the clay soil.
Excavated dirt is moved to an area for sifting. If remains are encountered during sifting or excavation, the process will stop to figure out how to best recover remains, according to an FBI press release.
