Placer County residents can track neighborhood crime online

Placer County residents can sign up to receive online notification of crimes that have occurred in their neighborhood.

By going to the Sheriff's Office's website at www.placer.ca.gov\sheriff, and following the link to Crimemapping.com, residents can sign up to receive alerts, allowing them to keep track of crimes that occur within a 2-mile radius of their homes.

Through Crimemapping.com, the Sheriff's Office provides public access to crime information for unincorporated Placer County, the city of Colfax and the town of Loomis. It is regularly updated with information about certain types of crime reports. People also can search for an address and select the types of crimes and date range they wish to see, or view all crimes in the jurisdiction.

Crimemapping.com also provides a free mobile app for iPhones.

In addition, residents can follow the Placer County Sheriff's Office on Facebook at "Placer County Sheriff's Office," or on Twitter at @placersheriff.
