Update: Sacramento police investigate shooting at pawn shop in central city

Sacramento police are investigating a shooting during a robbery this afternoon at a pawn shop in the central city.

The victim - an employee of the shop, located on 16th Street near E Street - was shot during an attempted robbery just after 3 p.m., said police Officer Doug Morse.

The victim was shot once, and his wounds are not life-threatening, police say.

The shooting occurred as two suspects attempted to rob the shop, Morse said. The suspects, described to police as Hispanic men in their 20s, then fled in what was described as a silver 2000 Chevrolet Impala with a black bumper. They drove northbound on 16 Street.

The victim fired shots as the suspect vehicle drove away, and there might be damage to the car's passenger-side windows, Morse said.

Police are unsure whether anything was taken from the shop, Morse said.
