A man has been arrested in the shooting death of a motorist last week in Rosemont.
On Thursday night, Alexander Brian Chavez, 21, was found unresponsive in the driver's seat of a Chevrolet Suburban by Sacramento County sheriff's deputies who responded to reports of shots fired.
His sport utility vehicle was stopped in the middle of the roadway, facing northbound on Westporter Drive at Lilibet Avenue. A female passenger inside the SUV at the time of the shooting was uninjured.
The initial investigation revealed that another vehicle was seen speeding from the scene just after shots were fired.
A sheriff's department investigation led them to Michael Almeda, 19, who was taken into custody Tuesday evening. He has been booked into Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of homicide.
The investigation continues with detectives looking into whether other suspects might be involved in the case. The relationship between Almeda and Chavez - and the motive for the killing - are still being determined, according to a sheriff's department press release.
Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide bureau at (916) 874-5115.
