Sacramento County District Attorney candidate Anne Marie Schubert announced today that she has received the endorsements of outgoing DA Jan Scully and Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones in her bid to win the job.
Former sheriff John McGinness also endorsed Schubert, a supervising deputy district attorney who is in charge of the office's Special Assault and Child Abuse unit.
"I feel very honored and humbled by the fact that I have incredible support from the top leaders in this county," Schubert said in an interview today. "I think that says a lot for me and for this this campaign."
Two other possible candidates, defense attorney Tom Johnson and Assistant Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Grippi, declined to comment on the endorsements.
In a statement released by Schubert campaign consultant Dave Gilliard, Scully said she "strongly encouraged" Schubert to run.
"She is a tough, non-nonsense prosecutor who has dedicated her career to the safety of our citizens and security of our community," Scully said.
Scully, who is now in her fifth term, announced Monday that she will not run for re-election when her term expires at the end of 2014.
Jones said Schubert "will be a strong partner with law enforcement as we work together to make Sacramento County safe."
