Davis police announced the arrest this afternoon of a 25-year-old man in connection with the sexual assault of a woman outside a church Saturday morning.
About 2:30 p.m. today, police received a call from a citizen who reported seeing a person who matched the description of the suspect in the case. Officers responded to the area and located Christopher Turk, whom they described as a transient, at a shopping center in West Davis.
Turk was taken into custody without incident. During a search, physical evidence was recovered that connected Turk to Saturday's incident, according to a Police Department news release.
Officers received a call about 11:40 a.m. Saturday regarding a sexual assault that had occurred on the property of Davis Community Church, 412 C St., about 20 minutes earlier. The victim reported that she was walking on church property when she was approached by a man who brandished a stabbing-type instrument and then proceeded to sexually assault her.
Before fleeing, the man took property belonging to the victim, police said.
Turk was booked into the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of sexual assault, robbery, burglary, false imprisonment and sexual battery.
