Woman carjacked in Elk Grove at gunpoint

carjack.JPGA young woman peacefully eating her lunch in an Elk Grove department store parking lot was carjacked at gunpoint.

Elk Grove police are looking for the heavy-set man who pointed a gun at the 19-year-old woman who was in her car eating lunch about noon Monday outside Kohl's department store, 9650 Bruceville Road.

The man, described as being in his early 20s, leaned into the car's open window, pointed a handgun at the woman and forced his way into the vehicle. When another motorist honked his horn, the carjacker let the woman get out of the vehicle with her purse.

The suspect drove away with her cell phone. The car, a maroon 2002 Mitsubishi Gallant, license plate 5EEW575, is still missing.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (916) 478-8060.
