Coroner identifies man killed in Meadowview gunfire

Homicide.jpgThe Sacramento County Coroner's office has released the name of a man killed in an apparent exchange of gunfire on a Meadowview street.

He was identified as Joseph McDowell, 20, of Sacramento.

According to Sacramento police, McDowell and possibly one other person approached a home in the 3500 block Reel Circle on foot shortly after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. An argument unfolded with one resident of the home, and gunfire was exchanged, said police Sgt. Matt Young said. Two of the men were struck.

A wounded man, also in his 20s, suffered non life-threatening injuries, said Young.

Sacramento police responded to the scene after callers reported shots heard in the area and one person seen lying in the street.

Officers located McDowell and the other shooting victim in the area of Reel Circle and Detroit Boulevard. McDowell was pronounced dead at the scene.
