Father, son plead no contest to 2010 Land Park home killing

A father and a son pleaded no contest today to killing a man in their Land Park home two years ago.

Christopher William Koppe, 56, and his son Nicholas Tyler Koppe, 23, entered the pleas in the Feb. 8, 2010, stabbing death of Keenan Jon Slotty, 24, in the residence in the 2700 block of Muir Way.

Authorities said the defendants and the victim were all believed to be alcohol and methamphetamine abusers and that the killing resulted from a dispute that arose between the Koppes and Slotty.

Nicholas Koppe pleaded to voluntary manslaughter, but with a previous strike on his record and other sentencing enhancements, he is facing a term of 36 years in prison.

Christopher Koppe pleaded to second-degree murder. He is facing a term of 16 years-to-life in prison.

Sacramento Superior Court Judge Steve White scheduled the sentencing for April 5.
