Firefighters plan safety fair, fundraising in Citrus Heights

The intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Greenback Lane in Citrus Heights will serve as a fundraising hub for firefighters who will ask passing motorists to help fill their boots to aid burn survivors.

This year's "Fill the Boot" drive in Citrus Heights is scheduled Friday through Monday. Firefighters will be on hand to collect donations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.

A free safety fair also is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday outside at Sunrise Mall.

The fundraising effort will support the Firefighters Burn Institute, a nonprofit organization founded by Sacramento Area Firefighters Local 522 in 1973 to establish a local burn treatment facility; provide recovery programs for burn survivors; promote fire an burn prevention through public education; fund education for burn team professionals, firefighters and burn survivors; and support burn treatment and rehabilitation.

For more information, call the Firefighters Burn Institute at (916) 739-8528 or see the website at
