The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection's Amador-El Dorado Unit will hold its 11th annual Fill the Boot for Burns fundraising event Saturday at three locations in Cameron Park.
From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., firefighters will collect donations at the corner of Cameron Park and Country Club drives, Merrychase Drive and Cambridge Road, and Green Valley and Cambridge roads. Area residents can drive by and donate.
Money raised from the event will go toward sending young burn victims to burn camps, and to research programs for the advancement of burn treatment and rehabilitation.
Last year's event raised $20,000, and this year's goal is $25,000, according to Unit Chief Kelly Keenan.
The Firefighters Burn Institute is a nonprofit organization founded by the Sacramento Area Firefighters Local 522 in 1973 for the purpose of establishing a local burn treatment facility; providing recovery programs for burn survivors; providing fire and burn prevention through public education; funding education for burn team professionals, firefighters and burn survivors; and supporting burn treatment and rehabilitation research.
