Police: Man arrested after parking officer, K9 officer punched

A man is in custody on suspicion of assaulting a city parking enforcement officer and a police officer, authorities said.

The incident happened about 4 p.m. Friday at Meadowview Road and Freeport Boulevard, when Brian Debbs, 27, allegedly punched a parking officer in the face after the city employee told him to move off the roadway and out of traffic.

A Sacramento Police K9 officer arrived on scene and was also hit in the face, authorities said. With the help of the police dog, the attacker was apprehended, according to reports. Other police units arrived afterward.

Both the K9 officer and parking enforcement officers suffered minor injuries. Debbs was also treated at a local hospital, then booked into Sacramento County Jail. Police believe he was under the influence of drugs.

Debbs was arrested on suspicion of multiple assault charges on an officer, violation of probation and resisting arrest.
