A man allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol was arrested after he led police on a chase, authorities said.
While Citrus Heights police were conducting a DUI checkpoint on Friday at Greenback Lane and Birdcage Drive, officers noticed a reckless driver around Sayonara and San Simeon Drives, according to reports.
Police attempted to stop the driver, but he refused to stop. The suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Michael Ballard, allegedly led police on a chase toward the DUI checkpoint, driving the wrong way on Greenback Lane and striking the center divider.
Ballard's vehicle eventually became disabled, and he fled on foot, police said. Moments later, he was apprehended and arrested on suspicion of multiple violations, including driving under the influence.
