Man allegedly tries to spring friend from police custody

Sacramento police say they weren't fooled by a man's attempt to help another man escape custody Saturday night.

Officers went to vacant property in the 2200 block of 19th St. about 10:25 p.m., in response to reports of two people causing a disturbance. When they got there Merhdad Monadjem, 49, was taken into custody on outstanding warrants.

Meanwhile, the other man, Robert Black, 47, reportedly told officers that a stabbing was happening around the corner. Monadjem tried to flee during Black's attempt to distract the officers, according to police reports.

Monadjem was quickly apprehended and arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and for outstanding warrants.

Black also was arrested on suspicion of attempting to help Monadjem escape from police custody, falsely reporting an emergency and resisting arrest.
