Police investigate shooting at Rosemont cell phone store

An employee allegedly shot and killed a suspected armed robber Sunday afternoon at a Metro PCS store in Rosemont Sunday afternoon.

There were two employees and no customers in the store when the shooting occurred on the 8900 block of Folsom Boulevard around 3:00 p.m., Sgt. Jason Ramos said.

One of the employees called 911 and said he shot a gunman who was trying to rob the store, Ramos said. Deputies found a man with upper body gunshot wounds lying in the back of the store, and paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, Ramos said.

Officers found one handgun near the body and another believed to have been used by the employee, Ramos said.

Detectives are comparing surveillance footage to interviews with the store employees to determine if the incident was a justifiable shooting, Ramos said. The workers were detained for questioning, but no arrests have been made.

The man killed has not been identified.

The store was also the site of a robbery in October, Ramos said.
