Pot-for-boat Craigslist transaction sinks Eureka man

A man whom Oroville police said posted a Craigslist ad looking to trade his marijuana for a boat has been arrested.

Billy Jack Pierce III, 33, of Eureka was booked into Butte County Jail on drug charges after police arranged a meeting with him in Oroville.

Police said that Pierce posted an ad on the Oroville Craigslist, offering to trade marijuana for a boat. Officers saw the ad and contacted the person behind the posting.

He agreed to come to Oroville from Eureka to consummate the transaction. At 5 p.m. Friday, officers arrested Pierce at the agreed upon Eureka location, a Frisbee golf course. Police said Pierce had three pounds of processed marijuana. A police press release said Pierce "claimed to possess and trade the marijuana for medical purposes."
