Red Bandits operation targets gang members responsible for West Sac area burglaries

Arrests by state and Yolo County law enforcement officers could cripple street gangs who are thought to be responsible for dozens of home and car burglaries, West Sacramento police said.

The arrests stem from more than 80 home burglaries and 40 car burglaries starting in December in West Sacramento and the outlying region. Thirteen people were arrested.

In addition, three assault rifles, drugs, ammunition, body armor and four handguns were confiscated.

The operation was dubbed "Operation Red Bandits" because members of the burglary ring were identified as members of the Norteno street gang. The gang wears the color red.

The operation targeted gang members from 16 to 20 years old. The gang members supported their lifestyle through the selling of drugs and stolen property.

Those arrested face possession of narcotics, narcotics sales, burglary and violent crime charges.

"Today's operation will cripple these criminal street gangs and their criminal enterprise network," stated a press release.
