Sacramento police have arrested a 27-year-old man in the death last month of his infant nephew.
Willis Lilly (pictured) was taken into custody Thursday and booked into Sacramento County jail on suspicion of murder.
About 7 a.m. Jan. 11, police were called to the 7800 block of Summersdale Drive in the south Sacramento area by Sacramento Fire Department personnel who were administering medical aid to an unresponsive 4-month-old boy, Demosphesis King. This child was transported to an area hospital where he died, according to a Police Department news release.
The coroner was called and concluded that an autopsy would be needed to determine the cause of death.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Lilly was caring for his nephew at the Summersdale home while the child's parents were out of town. During the early morning hours of Jan. 11, Lilly's roommate called for medical assistance for the infant, who reportedly was not breathing.
The autopsy revealed that the child died from blunt force trauma to the head. Detectives believe the infant sustained traumatic internal injuries in the early morning of Jan. 11 while Lilly was caring for him, according to the news release.
