Sacramento police identify suspected Oak Park bank robber

Ruben Rodriguez.JPGSacramento police have identified the man they said held up an Oak Park bank on Thursday.

Police said they booked Ruben Rodriguez, 45, (pictured) into Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of robbery, assault on an officer, evading arrest and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. His bail is set at $1 million.

He is accused of holding up the US Bank, 3418 Broadway, about 10 a.m. Thursday. Officers quickly responded to the report of a robbery at the bank.

When police arrived, citizens pointed out a man they said was the robber. Rodriguez fled in a vehicle with police in pursuit.

He hit one vehicle and then backed into a police unit before driving down Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Rodriguez was eventually taken into custody.

Cash taken from the bank and a fake firearm used in the robbery were found in his vehicle, police said.
