South Lake Tahoe police allege that distracted and drunken driving may have caused a man to plow into two parked cars last night.
Law enforcement received numerous 911 calls about 8:20 p.m. Thursday reporting that a car had crashed in front of a house in the 2500 block of Fountain Drive. A California Highway Patrol officer was nearby and responded.
He detained Christopher Catterson, 27, of South Lake Tahoe. A police press release said Catterson was running from the scene when he was stopped.
When South Lake Tahoe police arrived, they found that a Volvo station wagon had crashed into two parked vehicles in the driveway. Police said witnesses saw Cattterson in the driver's seat of the Volvo after the crash.
However, Catterson denied being the driver. Catterson, whose driver's license was suspended for a previous driving under the influence conviction, was arrested for suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run.
A police press release said that Catterson's cell phone indicated that he was sending a text message at the time of the crash.
