A machete-wielding man allegedly discovered stealing copper by workers at Woodland body shop fled after being pepper-sprayed but was later arrested by police.
Woodland police said that the owner and of an employee of Leyva's Auto Body Repair Shop, 39608 Kentucky Ave., spotted a man stealing copper wire at the business about 2 p.m. Thursday.
When confronted, the man brandished a machete, police said. The employee retaliated by pepper-spraying the suspected thief.
The thief then kicked the employee and fled on bicycle. About three hours later, the body shop owner and the employee spotted the same suspected thief on his bike in the 1300 block of East Main Street.
Officers responded and arrested Larry Vincent Kruletz, 42, identified as homeless, on suspicion of robbery.
