Suspected Oak Park bank robber rams police car

A suspected Oak Park bank robber was taken into custody this morning after ramming a Sacramento police officer's squad car.

The bank robbery occurred this morning about 10 a.m. at US Bank in the 3400 block of Broadway. Officers were nearby when the robbery call came in.

Police quickly arrived on the scene, where citizens pointed out a vehicle they said was being driven by the robber. Once a pursuit began, the robbery suspect crashed into a parked car on Bret Harte Court just off Broadway.

The robbery suspect then rammed a police vehicle before driving away again with police in chase. The fleeing suspect then hit a citizen's car at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 12th Avenue, where he was taken into custody. He was found with a replica gun in his possession, police said.

Nobody was injured in the collisions. The suspect's name and charges were not immediately available.

"This suspect is in custody thanks to witnesses, police officers in the area and quick reporting by bank personnel," said police spokeswoman Officer Michele Gigante.
