A 13-year-old boy is in custody after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman and a 10-year-old girl Monday in separate incidents in the Foothill Farms area.
Sacramento County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jason Ramos said both attacks took place on neighborhood streets.
The first occurred about 8:30 a.m. as a woman was walking in the area of Brett and Vogelsang drives, west of Hillsdale Boulevard. She was approached by a juvenile who knocked her down and sexually assaulted her. The youth ran off when he was spotted by a witness, Ramos said.
The second incident occurred about 3:30 p.m. A 10-year-old girl walking along a street a few blocks away was knocked down and sexually assaulted by a boy. Ramos said the description of the youth and manner of the attack were similar to the assault that occurred earlier in the day. The boy again fled when approached by passers-by who witnessed the attack.
Deputies located the suspect later in the afternoon and he was identified by the victims, Ramos said.
The youth was alone at the time of both assaults, and Ramos said investigators don't believe anyone else was involved.
The boy was booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of sexual assault with intent to commit rape.
