Tip leads to capture of Roseville car thief suspect

Gary_Lee_Fowler.JPGA suspected car thief and the subject of two intense police searches last week has been arrested thanks to a tip by a citizen.

Gary Lee Fowler, 43, was wanted for stealing six cars from a Roseville rental car agency Jan. 27. Roseville police had arrested a 31-year-old Citrus Heights woman the same day for her alleged involvement in the crime with Fowler that involved breaking into an overnight key drop box and driving off with the vehicles one-by-one.

In two extensive searches, one in Roseville and another in Antelope, police were unable to find and arrest Fowler, a parolee-at-large.

Police believed Fowler to be armed, and said so in press releases to media outlets last week. On Saturday a citizen who saw one of those reports, called Roseville police to say that he had just seen Fowler in a park near Roseville Road and Outlook Drive in Citrus Heights.

Citrus Heights police responded and took him into custody. He was booked into Placer County Jail on suspicion of vehicle theft and other charges.
