Two men were arrested early today in Rancho Cordova, accused of stealing copper wire from several businesses.
John Whitlock, 30, and Casey Solano, 24, were booked into Sacramento County Jail with bail set at $20,000 each.
Rancho Cordova police officers responded to the 9900 block of Horn Road about 4 a.m. after a security guard reported that two men were on the roof of a business. When police arrived, the two suspects, later identified as Whitlock and Solano, ran from officers, according to a Police Department news release.
The two men were detained, and officers recovered at least one bag containing copper materials, as well as tools thought to have been used in the theft.
Upon further investigation, officers discovered that someone had tampered with the rooftop air conditioning units of numerous businesses at the Horn Road location. One business owner who came to the scene estimated that damage to the units amounted to tens of thousands of dollars, officials said.
Whitlock and Solano were arrested on suspicion of grand theft of copper material, criminal conspiracy and violation of parole. Solano also was arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property and possessing burglary tools.
