A woman who had been reported missing from her Arden Arcade residence since Tuesday night was injured when she reportedly walked into the path of a light-rail train this evening.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department identified Alice Alspektor, 66, as the woman struck by a train at the Watt/I-80 station about 6:40 p.m. She had last been seen in the 3900 block of Edison Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
RT spokeswoman Alane Masui said witnesses reported that the woman intentionally walked into the path of an oncoming train, which was coming from downtown Sacramento, and became trapped beneath the train.
Crews from the Sacramento City and Sacramento Metropolitan fire departments found the woman about 2 feet under the train, said Capt. Jon Rudnicki of the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. He said they used jacks to raise the train and free her. She was taken to a local hospital.
Masui said her injuries were described as serious but non-life-threatening.
The Sheriff's Department issued a news release earlier today asking the public's help in locating Alspektor. Sheriff's officials said she was considered at risk because she had been diagnosed as bipolar and having dementia.
