Woodland police officer involved in collision responding to call

A Woodland police officer was involved in a collision this morning while responding to another officer's request for assistance.

The crash occurred about 6:56 a.m. as an officer driving a marked police sport-utility vehicle with activated emergency lights and siren responded to a report of an officer in need of assistance at an alarm call in the 100 block of West Court Street, according to a Police Department news release.

As the officer traveled westbound on Gibson Road through West Street, the police vehicle collided with a pickup truck northbound on West Street. After the vehicles struck each other, the police SUV crashed into the front yard of a home on the northwest corner of the intersection, and the pickup stopped in the roadway.

The officer was treated for injuries and released. Police said no one in the pickup was injured.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the collision.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has other information pertaining to the crash is asked to call the Woodland Police Department at (530) 661-7800, or the dispatch center at (530) 666-2411.
