QUESTION: In the mid-1990s, Lance Evans, owner of Pool, Patio and Things, was killed in his place of business. Was this ever solved?
Submitted by: David Hunt, Sacramento
ANSWER: This case remains unsolved.
Lance Evans, 41, was killed July 12, 1995, during a robbery at the Arden Way patio store that he had owned for five years with two partners.
According to stories in The Bee, he had gone to work early July 12 to prepare deliveries at the business. His body was found by an employee about 10 a.m. just inside a warehouse adjacent to the showroom. Evans apparently was putting batteries in a clock when he was confronted and forced to open the cash register.
He was shot once in the head by the robber or robbers, who then stole the brown suede hiking boots he was wearing.
Because of the missing shoes, detectives speculated that the killer might have been a transient.
Evans' family and friends offered a $10,000 reward in the case.
