Bee reporters answer questions about area crime news, trends and other issues.

QUESTION: On March 21, my wife was attacked in our front yard in the 500 block of 44th Street in Sacramento. We subdued the man till the police arrived to take him into custody. We found out that he had reportedly cut two people that morning at 7:45 a.m. on 11th Avenue in Oak Park. Other than this, we have no other information and would love any information you could give us.

ANSWER: According to the Sacramento Police Department's daily activity log, officers responded about 7:45 a.m. March 21 to the 4500 block of 11th Avenue regarding an assault.

The suspect, Richard "Ricky" Padilla, 32, allegedly had assaulted his uncle and grandfather with a cutting instrument, then fled.

The victims were taken to an area hospital with injuries that were serious but not life threatening. Padilla was taken into custody later in the day.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, embezzlement or theft from an elder or dependent adult by a non-caretaker, and attempted murder. He remains in Sacramento County Jail with a court date set for April 8.
