The Citrus Heights Police Department is warning residents to beware of a police impersonator.

About 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Citrus Heights police responded to a theft in the 7500 block of Auburn Boulevard when a man wearing a police-style uniform stole clothes from a local business.

Police describe him as black, 25 to 30 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 155 pounds.

He has visible tattoos on his arms. He was wearing a black baseball cap with an unknown emblem, a black vest with a "Sheriff" patch on it, black cargo pants, a police utility belt with a silver star badge attached and black boots. He was driving a gold or tan Ford sport-utility vehicle last seen southbound on Auburn Boulevard.

Citrus Heights police remind motorists to drive to a well-lit public place and call 911 if they suspect they are dealing with someone who is impersonating a police officer.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Citrus Heights Police Department at (916) 727-5500.
