CHP, local law enforcers on alert for drunken drivers on St. Patrick's Day

By Tony Bizjak

The California Highway Patrol and local law enforcement agencies report they will be on special alert on St. Patrick's Day for drunken drivers.

More than 300 people were arrested for DUI last year statewide, CHP officials said. They and state Office of Traffic Safety representatives advise people who will be drinking Sunday to designate one member of their party as a non-drinking driver. They also suggest taking a taxi or calling a sober friend or family member to pick you up.

Drivers who see a suspected drunken driver can call 911 to report the vehicle.
