A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was injured this morning in a collision on Stockton Boulevard north of 37th Avenue in the Fruitridge Manor neighborhood.
The crash occurred about 11:35 a.m. as the CHP officer was northbound on Stockton Boulevard. A motorist driving a green Mercedes Benz C220 was leaving the parking lot area of the Kings Palace Restaurant on the east side of Stockton Boulevard. The motorist apparently did not see the motorcycle, and entered the roadway to make a left turn onto southbound Stockton Boulevard, according to a CHP news release. The Mercedes traveled directly into the path of the motorcycle and the officer did not have time to take evasive action.
The front end of the motorcycle collided with the driver's side fender and door area of the Mercedes, propelling the officer over the car. The officer landed on the roadway north of the collision site.
Sacramento police officers were first on the scene and, along with CHP personnel, assisted the officer until Sacramento Fire Department crews arrived.
The officer was transported to UC Davis Medical Center with major, but not life-threatening injuries, according to the CHP.
The officer, whose name was not released, has been with the CHP for 18 years and has been assigned to the south Sacramento office since 2000.
