Distracted shopping has resulted in two women being relieved of their wallets at Roseville grocery stores.
In the first theft, a woman was shopping at a supermarket in the 6700 block of Stanford Ranch Road when a stranger struck up a conversation with her about food. The shopper later realized her wallet was missing from her purse.
She theorized that the stranger was likely working with another woman who took the wallet out of her purse, according to Roseville police.
Two days earlier, a woman was shopping at a grocery in the 700 block of Pleasant Grove Boulevard when she also had her wallet taken. The woman had left her unzipped purse in her shopping cart, and, when she turned her back to look at groceries, the wallet was lifted.
Her credit card from the stolen wallet was soon used to make purchases at another store. It is not uncommon for thieves to target purses placed in shopping carts, police said.
Police advise shoppers to keep purses closed and in sight at all times.
