Update: Woman dies when struck by RT light rail train

A 47-year-old woman was struck and killed by a light rail train this morning between the Sunrise and Hazel stations.

The incident happened about 6:30 a.m. today on the tracks along Folsom Boulevard near Mercantile Drive, which is just east of the Sunrise station. A Regional Transit spokeswoman said that woman was walking a bicycle on the tracks.

Crossing arms were down at Mercantile Drive and bells were ringing when the person walked into the path of the train, the RT spokeswoman said. The woman's name has not yet been released.

Trains were operating through the area again at 10:30 a.m.
