One person reported dead in Yuba County crash

One person died this evening after a vehicle crashed west of Smartsville in Yuba County and caught fire.

Officer J. Bice of the California Highway Patrol said the single vehicle crash was reported about 6:10 p.m. on Timbuctoo Road, on the east side of the Yuba River, northeast of the Parks Bar Bridge. He said a passer-by had spotted smoke.

The vehicle was found 150 to 200 feet off the roadway on some rocks at the water's edge. Bice said it had been consumed by fire.

He said it appeared only one person was in the vehicle. That person has not been identified.

Bice said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
