Metro fire crews were called about 4:30 p.m. Saturday to Alterna Court on a report of smoke rising from a residence. Units heading toward the residence could see a large column of black smoke, growing in size, as they approached the address.
What crews found when they arrived, was a motor home well-involved in fire and an already-burning home. The recreational vehicle, parked alongside the residence, was destroyed by fire.
The fire extended into the kitchen of the home on the first floor and also into the second floor and attic. The home sustained significant damage.
Crews worked hard to successfully save a neighboring home. Arson investigators determined the fire started in the motor home.
"Fire can happen to anyone at any time!" a district press release stated. "The family impacted today is a Metro Fire employee."
