Placer County pedestrian is hit and killed by car

A pedestrian walking on a Placer County road near Lincoln Thursday night was struck and killed by a car.

Candido Perez Jr., 33, of Roseville, was walking in the southbound lane of Industrial Avenue near Athens Avenue about 10:15 p.m. Thursday when he was hit by a car traveling at about 55 mph.

The driver swerved in an attempt to avoid Perez, who was walking with his back to traffic. Perez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol said it is not known why Perez was walking in the roadway.
