Prison inmate convicted of assaulting fellow prisoner

A California State Prison, Sacramento inmate has been convicted of a 2010 attack on a fellow inmate.

A Sacramento County jury today found Steven Thompson, 50, guilty of assault on another inmate, personally inflicting great bodily injury and possessing a weapon in prison.

While incarcerated at the prison in Folsom, Thompson stabbed another inmate on the yard with an inmate-manufactured knife, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney's Office news release. The victim suffered a punctured lung.

Thompson faces up to 53 years to life in prison for the offenses. He is to be sentenced May 3 by Superior Court Judge Maryanne Gilliard.
