Purse snatcher stabs woman in Roseville

Roseville police arrested a purse snatcher who stabbed a woman on a downtown street.

Shane Michael England, 26, of Roseville was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted robbery in the attack that occurred at 12:40 a.m. Saturday.

He remained in custody today in Placer County Jail today on $85,000 bail.

Police said a woman was walking on a sidewalk in the 300 block of Lincoln Street when a stranger approached her. The man stabbed her in the abdomen and tugged at her purse strap.

Unable to get the purse away from the woman, the attacker fled in the direction of nearby railroad tracks. Witnesses helped police identify England, a resident of a boarding hotel, as the attacker.

He was arrested 30 minutes after the stabbing. The woman was taken for treatment and later released.
