The Sacramento Police Canine Association is asking for donations of items to be raffled off to raise money for the care of current and retired police K-9s.
The items would be raffled off at the association's annual comedy night fundraiser Monday.
The association is a nonprofit group that covers expenses not covered by the Sacramento Police Department, such as community outreach efforts, some training equipment and veterinary care and burial expenses for retired police dogs.
Sgt. Steve Oliveira, head of the K-9 unit, said three K9s - Crash, Hutch and Sonic - are expected to retire this year and will need the association's support. K9 Bodie, who is pictured at left and was shot by a suspect last year, is still receiving treatment for his injuries and also might be a beneficiary.
Anyone interested in donating items can contact the association at (916) 551-4300 or (916) 808-8282 or www.spdk9.org.
