Judge grants delay in sentencing of convicted molester Shane Vicars

Sacramento Superior Court Judge Emily Vasquez has granted a motion delaying the sentencing for convicted Sacramento molester Shane Adair Vicars.

Vicars, a former Sierra Oaks Elementary School teacher, was convicted Feb. 8 on 13 counts of molesting two of his students. He was scheduled to be sentenced Friday.

Vicars petitioned the court to replace his attorney Michael Chastaine with defense attorney Shannon Baker, who represented Vicars in his first trial. Jurors in that trial were unable to reach a verdict.

Through a filing, Baker said she would need time to review transcripts of the more recent trial to determine if grounds exist to argue for a third trial. The matter was put over until May 3, but it might not be resolved for months.

Vicars is facing a maximum term of 32 years in prison.
