Sunrise Mall auto burglaries ignite police chase

Police activity around Sunrise Mall on Saturday night involved a chase of suspected auto burglars.

Citrus Heights police said that a citizen noticed two people breaking into cars in the mall parking lot about 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Officers saw a car driven by Anthony Shane Junkin, 25, leave the scene and head eastbound on Greenback Lane.

Police said Junkin sideswiped a car at Greenback Lane and Illinois Avenue in Orangevale. Junkin and a passenger, Marcus Culbertson, 28, abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot.

A perimeter was set up and one of the men was found in a nearby backyard, the other walking away from the scene. Both men were booked into jail.

Junkin was arrested on suspicion of evading an officer, drug possession, hit and run, violation of probation and resisting an officer. Police said Culbertson was arrested on suspicion of evading an officer.
