West Sacramento welcoming candidates to replace retiring police chief

West Sacramento is looking for a new leader for its police department, following the announced retirement of Chief Dan Drummond.

Drummond, who has served the city since 2004, recently announced that he would be stepping down in July. Mayor Christopher Cabaldon said West Sacramento became a safer place during Drummond's time on the job -- with property and violent crime declining.

An online listing for the open position notes that the police department, with 70 sworn positions, is divided into two divisions: field operations and administration support.

The city of nearly 49,000 residents is seeking job candidates with at least 10 years of extensive experience in all major phases of police work, including at least three years in middle management.

The salary would depend on the qualifications of the man or woman selected as the new chief. Final filing date for the position is April 8.
