QUESTION: I am trying to find an article about an old friend that died on Aug. 29, 1996. His name was Florentino Mayorga Jr., "Tino". I wanted to know if they ever found how he died and if anyone was ever convicted.

ANSWER:Trevor James Heard and Fernando George Loya were found guilty of second-degree murder in the August 1996 slaying of 20-year-old Florentino Mayorga.
According to stories in The Bee, Mayorga was shot to death on a quiet Laguna Creek cul de sac over what sheriff's officials said was apparently a dispute over $200.
Sacramento County sheriff's deputies were called to Meadowfoam Court about 1:30 p.m. when a resident reported three men fighting in and around a Lincoln in the middle of the street. When officers arrived, they found the car in a partially opened garage and Mayorga dead in the back seat.
Loya and Heard were arrested inside the house. Loya lived at the residence with his parents, and Heard lived across the street. Authorities said two handguns were found in the house, both of which reportedly had been used.
Heard and Loya, both now 36 years old, were sentenced in August 1997 to 15 years to life in prison, according to Sacramento Superior Court online records. Heard is incarcerated at Kern Valley State Prison in Dalano, and Loya is at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego.
