Autopsy to be conducted today in killing of Calaveras County girl

Leila Fowler.jpegAn autopsy is scheduled today in the case of a Calaveras County girl found killed in her home, possibly by an intruder

The death of Leila Fowler, 8, has spawned a manhunt for a suspect described by her brother, who said he came upon an intruder about noon Saturday in the house. The boy then found his sister dead of stab wounds.

Calaveras County Sheriff's detectives and state Department of Justice Forensic Services personnel executed a search warrant at the home where the homicide occurred. Fingerprint and DNA evidence was collected at the scene.

Sheriff officials say there is no specific suspect.

The incident took place in the Rancho Calaveras neighborhood of Valley Springs, a town of about 7,500 people, about 60 miles southeast of Sacramento.

Sheriff's deputies and officers from throughout the foothills set up roadblocks and went door to door to search for the mysterious intruder. He was described as a muscular white or Latino man, about 6 feet tall, wearing a black long-sleeve shirt and blue pants.
