City fire crews recover body from Sacramento River

A Sacramento Fire Department water rescue team has recovered a body from the Sacramento River near the 800 block of Seamas Avenue.

Assistant Chief Niko King said a call was received about 5:10 p.m. from a person on a cell phone who had spotted a body snagged near a tree at the river's edge.

Rescue crews found an individual who was deceased, and King said police and coroner's officials have been called to the scene.

King said he did not know whether the body was that of a man or a woman, or how long it might have been in the river.
