A motorist was arrested Wednesday for allegedly speeding away from a traffic stop through a supermarket parking lot in West Sacramento in an attempt to evade a California Highway Patrol officer.
An officer saw a Honda without license plates about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday on southbound Jefferson Boulevard near South River Road. He stopped the car when the driver entered the Nugget Market parking lot on Lake Washington Boulevard.
During the traffic stop, the driver, identified as Avel Gonzalez Valencia, 21, of West Sacramento allegedly fled in the Honda, driving at high speed through the parking lot where several shoppers were walking.
Valencia entered Jefferson Boulevard where he drove at high speed, running traffic lights, according to a CHP activity report. The officer lost sight of the Honda so he requested help from back-up, which responded in the form of other CHP officers and West Sacramento police.
The Honda was eventually found on Canvasback Way, but it was unoccupied. Valencia was found walking a few blocks away.
He was booked into Yolo County Jail on suspicion of driving on a suspended driver's license, evading an officer and resisting arrest, according to the CHP.
