Drugs for disposal to be accepted on Saturday

Law enforcement is accepting for disposal potentially dangerous and unwanted prescription drugs on Saturday at four sites in Sacramento County.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency have set up four spots to bring the unwanted medicines from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The locations: Sheriff's Garfield Station, 5510 Garfield Ave., Sheriff's Florin Station, 7000 65th Street, Rancho Cordova Police, 2897 Kilgore Road and Antelope High School, 7801 Titan Road.

Studies reveal that most of the prescription drugs that are abused come from family and friends, often out of the home medicine cabinet, according to a sheriff's press release.

Collection sites will accept any medicines in capsule and tablet form. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked, according to the sheriff's department.
