Elk Grove police and fire personnel pulled a small dog from a storm drain this morning using an air hose to move the little pooch along.
Emergency officials were called to the area of Bond and Brandshaw roads where the dog had somehow gotten into an underground storm drain and then apparently couldn't figure how to get out.
Pressurized air was sprayed into the pipe where the dog was located, which caused the dog to walk underground to a spot where rescue crew members above ground had taken off a storm drain grate.
When the dog poked its head into the grate area, a police officer placed a loop at the end of a pole around the dog's neck and a gloved firefighter from the Cosumnes CSD Fire Department reached down to pull the furry critter above ground.
"He appeared to be a stray because his hair was in pretty bad shape," said Fire chief Tracey Hansen.
The dog was taken to a veterinarian, although he appeared to be fine.
